Ascot Heath 4th in Berkshire School Games
Ascot Heath show grit and determination to finish 4th in County Finals
19 boys and girls from Years 5 and 6 travelled to St Bartholomew's School in Newbury on Friday 23rd February to take part in the Berkshire School Games Indoor Athletics Final having qualified from the Bracknell District competition. We were competing against schools from West Berkshire, Slough, Wokingham, Windsor, Maidenhead and Ascot. The children participated in a wide variety of events, including: 4 person obstacle relay, 6 lap paarlauf, 4x1 relay, chest push, verticle jump and triple jump. The children were outstanding ambassadors for our school, pushing themselves to the very limits to achieve personal bests and displaying the highest levels of sportsmanship. In the end, after a draining afternoon of competition, the children managed to finish 4th (out of over 200 schools in the county), just 5 points off the team in bronze medal position.
Not only was I proud of the children's achievements, I was also delighted by their behaviour and attitude throughout the competition. They were competitive but fair, supportive but committed. I would like to say thank you to them for being a pleasure to coach! Thank you also to the parents who snuck in to offer their invaluable support.
